HOW THE LIFETIME SKILLS GUARANTEE CAN HELP YOU

As part of the Lifetime Skills Guarantee, adults in England who are 24 and over and do not yet have A levels or equivalent can now take their
first level 3 qualification for free. Employees aged 19 -23 you may also be able to access free courses.

Skills and work go hand in hand throughout our lives and we all need to boost our existing skills or gain new ones to get ahead in the changing world of work, and that is more important now than ever.

If your employees are 24 and over, live in England and don’t yet have a Level 3 qualification which is equivalent to qualifications such as A levels, or an advanced technical certificate or diploma taking a free course as part of the Lifetime Skills Guarantee could boost their job skills in your sector to enable them to progress.

Hundreds of courses are now available in subjects such as construction, manufacturing and agriculture, to digital, ICT, health and social care.
These free courses can help them gain new skills. It is part of the Government’s Plan for Jobs, helping adults develop the skills to succeed in work throughout life, and supporting businesses to find or develop talented people of all ages to fill skills gaps If employees are aged 19 23 you may also be able to access free courses.

To increase awareness and course registrations, we would be very grateful if you could:

1. Include the launch and offer in your internal communications actively encourage your staff to consider upskilling opportunities and to speak to their line manager about the free courses for adults under the Lifetime Skills Guarantee.

2. Help us promote a positive culture around learning by talking to your team about the value of continually upskilling throughout life and the opportunities available to adult learners.

3. Engage with local colleges and providers, and ask about job fairs and upcoming events where you can spread the word about what courses and skills prospective learners should look into in order to enter or upskill in your industry. Make sure learners are aware of the free qualifications available as a route into your industry or a way to progress, and that you as an employer endorse them.

4. Proactively advocate for your sector adults face many barriers to learning, and a clear line of sight to a job is an essential part of persuading them learning will be worth their time. If people are excited about the idea of working in your sector, they will be more likely to take us these courses as a way in.
