Tuesday 18 March 2025 saw the return of Generation Broxbourne to the Spotlight Theatre in Hoddesdon. Generation Broxbourne is a careers fair for all the Broxbourne Secondary schools and is now in its fourth year; this annual event is organised in partnership between Broxbourne Borough Council and Hertfordshire Careers Hub (Hertfordshire Futures).

Over 50% of the businesses attending are based in the Borough of Broxbourne, highlighting the many fantastic opportunities in the local community.

The day started at 9:15am with Adrian Hawkins OBE, Chair of Hertfordshire Futures giving the opening speech the day supported by Sherrie McDaid, Mayor of Broxbourne and Steve Wortley, Deputy Leader Broxbourne Council.

The Mayor of Broxbourne, Councillor Sherrie McDaid said “Broxbourne is an exciting place to be right now, with plenty of opportunities for young people. It’s fantastic to see so many people here today, taking advantage of the time to educate themselves on how they want to shape their own career and future.” Deputy Leader, Councillor Steve Wortley said “It's great to see so many young people here today. They are at a pivotal stage in their lives, exploring their options.” Our goal is to ensure they have the knowledge and skills needed to make the most of all the opportunities that lie ahead of them here in the Borough of Broxbourne.”

The turnout from schools was exceptional, over 600 young people attending the day with many students looking to this event to help them decide their next best step.

Students were able to speak directly with employers to find out about the opportunities available to them in Broxbourne and across Hertfordshire. Employers ranged from the newest company to move to the Borough, Google, to some of the long-established businesses such as HB Accountants, who are consistently one of the top 25 Apprenticeship providers in the UK.

Other business supporting included the NHS, who spoke about clinical and non-clinical role, who would have known the NHS employs Electricians? Other employers included: Volker Group – Construction, B3 Living – Social Housing, Barclays Bank – Banking, Learn Trade Skills – Training Provider, and many more local and national companies. This gave students the opportunity to meet a business from each sector, including Hertford Regional College and the University of Hertfordshire.
