Hertfordshire Futures Celebrates Mid-Week Success of Creative Careers Week
This week, Hertfordshire Futures, in collaboration with Sky Studios Elstree and Discover! Creative Careers is hosting Creative Careers Week (18th-22nd November), and the event has already seen remarkable success.
The Creative and Screen Industry is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the UK, with just over half of the new studio space being planned and delivered around London and the South-East, coming to Hertfordshire.
Roadshows
The special series of road shows, designed to be delivered across the four Hertfordshire Colleges, has been a hit among students. These events are not for the typical creative career students but instead focuses on students studying subjects such as Electrical, Carpentry, Business, Finance, Hair, Beauty, and Games Design. The initiative aims to highlight the skills gaps that exist in the industry and showcase the variety of career opportunities available.
Industry line-up
Screenwriters, producers, set designers, riggers, specialist electricians, and many more have shown their support by agreeing to feature at one or more of the events throughout the week. Their participation has been instrumental in spreading the word about the diverse opportunities in the industry.
Throughout the roadshows, a series of workshops are being delivered by sector specialists. Students have been given the opportunity to speak with exhibitors and discover future pathways in careers they might never have considered. The engagement and enthusiasm from both students and industry professionals has been overwhelming, indicating a bright future for Hertfordshire’s creative and screen industry.
Luke, catering student, North Hertford College
“I could have my own business with a food truck, or support staff canteens with new ideas, so this is a good industry for me to consider.”
Celia Taylor, Hertfordshire Futures Board member
“This is a really exciting time because the industry has never been more open to new entrants than it is at the moment and in Hertfordshire there is an amazing industry waiting for young people to join.”
