The UK Government has made a legal commitment to achieve Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050.

With 40% of total carbon emissions coming from construction and the built environment, we need to decarbonise our homes and buildings at scale to achieve Net Zero. This challenge brings with it immense job and upskilling opportunities.

27 million* homes in the UK require energy efficiency measures (domestic retrofit) installed, to meet Net Zero targets. Hertfordshire alone needs to install retrofit measures to circa 500,000 homes by 2050 - a colossal task which will cost over £800 million* and circa 1.58 million* trade days to deliver.

Hertfordshire’s Domestic Energy Efficiency Supply Chain is currently worth £1.2bn** to the local economy, generated by 330 businesses employing over 12,000 people. With rising demand for retrofit, this is set to grow 10-fold by 2050.
