HINTS AND TIPS
I worked in the Resourcing team in Tesco’s People function (effectively our HR department!) on an ongoing Disability Confident Leader project. Disability Confident is a voluntary government-run scheme designed to support businesses in attracting, hiring and retaining disabled talent. I spend my time reviewing Tesco’s end-to-end recruitment processes and making recommendations on how they can be made more accessible to candidates applying with a disability.
I’ve been really impressed by how much responsibility and autonomy I have had as part of the programme – my team have been great at making sure I’ve got the support I need to do my job but let me get on with it and trust me to do a good job. I get to work with so many different people across a huge range of roles and benefit from their experience, but ultimately it’s down to me to use what I learn from them to make changes or create new guidelines. It’s been really satisfying to see some of what I’ve created come to life!
