BUSINESS NAME:

Lednor Accounting Limited

BUSINESS DESCRIPTION:

Lednor Accounting Limited is a Chartered Accountancy practice based in St Albans, Hertfordshire, serving small businesses from start-up through to scaling stage across a range of sectors. Founded by Amy Lednor, the practice offers bookkeeping, VAT compliance, accounts preparation, and business advisory services.

What sets Lednor Accounting apart is the ethos behind the advisory work. Many small business owners feel isolated in their decision-making - unsure what to measure, where to focus, or how to move from where they are to where they want to be. Lednor Accounting positions itself as a trusted sounding board: an accountant who is genuinely invested in the growth and profitability of each client's business, not just the annual compliance cycle.

Amy was named Hertfordshire Accountant of the Year in 2025 and is a certified Xero partner.

RELEVANT PROGRAMMES USED:

Upskilling / Skills Bootcamps

Amy Lednor completed the Operationalising AI Skills Bootcamp, delivered by Estu Global Ltd in partnership with Hertfordshire Futures. The programme focused on how to design, govern, and implement AI tools responsibly within a professional services environment - moving beyond experimentation to practical, accountable deployment. The cohort completed on 3 July 2026.

BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT FROM PROGRAMMES USED:

Prior to the bootcamp, VAT transaction review at Lednor Accounting was entirely manual - a time-intensive process of cross-referencing client transactions against Amy's professional judgement and knowledge of VAT legislation. Accurate, but not scalable.

The bootcamp prompted Amy to design a governed AI tool to assist with quarterly VAT exception reporting. Rather than adopting a broad or ambitious AI solution, the programme instilled a deliberate discipline: start with the thinnest possible slice, govern it properly, and prove it before expanding.

The result is a VAT Transaction Review Tool that processes quarterly Xero CSV exports against a legislatively grounded VAT Treatment Lookup Table - built entry by entry, verified against the Value Added Tax Act 1994, and confirmed by Amy before each entry is accepted. The tool flags potentially miscoded transactions with urgency tiers and confidence indicators. Every exception is reviewed and decided by Amy. The AI assists; the accountant decides.

Governance was built in from the start, not added afterwards. This included a completed ICO AI and Data Protection Risk Toolkit, a formal client disclosure and opt-out process, a risk log, and a requirement that a qualified external accountant must be confirmed as backup reviewer before any client data is processed.

Once fully rolled out, the tool is expected to save between two and eight hours per client each quarter - time that can be reinvested into the advisory and business growth work that makes the most difference to Lednor Accounting's clients.

The practice has completed one test cycle on its own books and is on track to begin a phased rollout to client accounts in July 2026.

TEAM QUOTES:

"The output probably hasn't changed much - I was getting the VAT right before. What's changed is the audit trail. Instead of the knowledge living in my head, it's written down, cross-referenced against the legislation, and documented at every step. That's a very different position to be in if you ever need to show your working. And all of that without huge increases in my time. Longer term, it also opens the door to the first pass of a VAT review being done by another team member, with me reviewing the output - that's a genuinely different way of working."
