The Early Years Skills Bootcamp is helping people across Hertfordshire gain the confidence, skills and qualifications needed to begin rewarding careers in childcare, while supporting employers to build the workforce of the future.

For many people considering a career in childcare, knowing where to start can be the biggest challenge. A lack of experience, confidence or qualifications can make entering the Early Years sector feel daunting.

The Early Years Skills Bootcamp is helping to change that.

Through specialist training, practical qualifications and dedicated career support, the programme is opening doors for aspiring childcare professionals across Hertfordshire, giving learners the tools they need to take their first steps into a rewarding and fulfilling profession.

Few people have seen the impact of the programme more closely than Julie Jeffery, Delivery Manager at Realise.

Since joining the Early Years Skills Bootcamp team in 2024, Julie has witnessed the programme grow from strength to strength, helping individuals overcome barriers and achieve career goals they once thought were out of reach.

"Since joining the Early Years Skills Bootcamp team in 2024, I have seen the success of the programme grow and grow," says Julie. "I am very lucky to be able to meet many people across Hertfordshire to promote and inform them about the Skills Bootcamp, and I hear about the struggles some have to make headway into the Early Years sector."

The Skills Bootcamp has been designed to provide learners with a solid foundation in childcare, helping them understand what it takes to work with babies and young children while building the confidence employers are looking for.

"The Skills Bootcamp provides a fantastic opportunity to learn about working with children and babies, providing theory, knowledge and most of all, confidence in wanting to join this rewarding role."

Learners also benefit from a range of additional support designed to help them succeed beyond the classroom. Alongside completing a Level 3 Emergency Paediatric First Aid qualification, participants receive tailored guidance with CV writing, interview preparation and job searching.

Crucially, that support does not end when the course finishes.

Realise continues to help learners connect with local employment opportunities and can provide guidance for up to six months after programme completion, ensuring participants have the best possible chance of securing work within the sector.

For some people, Julie admits, the level of support on offer can seem almost unbelievable.

"Some have said that the offer is too good to be true," she says. "It's that good, and it is true!"

Delivering Results for Employers

The impact of the Early Years Skills Bootcamp is not only being felt by learners. Employers across the region are also seeing significant benefits from access to motivated, well-prepared candidates who are eager to begin their careers in childcare.
