Teacher Encounter Event at Sky Studios Elstree Equips Educators with Real-World Recruitment Insights

Published on 09 July 2025

Following the success of its first event, Hertfordshire Careers Hub hosted a second Teacher Encounter Event at Sky Studios Elstree, offering a deep dive into the modern application process and the evolving landscape of apprenticeships.

In collaboration with Sky, Morgan Sindall, Willmott Dixon, and MBDA, the event provided educators with practical tools and first-hand experience to better support students preparing for higher and degree apprenticeships.

A Modern Look at Recruitment

The day began with a focus on CVs and the modern-day application process, including insights into the Apprenticeships Twin Track approach. Employers shared how they assess candidates beyond qualifications—emphasizing skills, mindset, and potential.

Interactive Workshops and Real-World Challenges

A standout session was the “Brand Me” workshop led by Natalie Sidey from Willmott Dixon, which encouraged teachers to reflect on personal branding and how to help students present themselves confidently.

Teachers then took part in two Assessment Centre-style tasks:

  • A practical task, simulating real-world problem-solving.
  • A mental task, testing communication, logic, and teamwork.

These activities gave educators a first-hand understanding of what students experience during recruitment processes.

Lunch, Learning, and Lived Experience

After a networking lunch, attendees engaged in a Q&A panel with current degree apprentices, interns, and apprentices from partner organisations. Their stories offered valuable perspectives on navigating early careers and the support they received along the way.

“It is essential for industry invest in guiding educators on modern recruitment practices and LMI, as it ensures students are equipped not only for today’s job market, but for the rapid evolving future of work”.

Reflection and Planning for Impact

Teachers were given time to reflect on the day’s learning, explore useful resources, and begin planning how to embed these insights into their own schools for the 2025–2026 academic year.

The day concluded with an optional behind-the-scenes tour of Sky Studios, offering a glimpse into one of the UK’s most innovative media environments.
