A job working with children and families will be incredibly rewarding. You could specialise in midwifery or health visiting, providing care to women and their families through pregnancy, labour and the period after a baby's birth. You might be supporting families and their children to have the best start in life through local family support services or perhaps working in early years is for you, caring for children as they learn and develop.

EARLY YEARS APPRENTICESHIPS

Working with children and young people is an increasingly popular area for apprentices.

You could be an apprentice teacher, teaching assistant or early years educator, playing a vital role in enabling children to get the most out of education in a school or nursery setting.

Apprenticeships can also involve particular specialisms in areas like music or working with pupils with special educational needs or challenging behaviour, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and fulfil their potential.

Apprenticeships include:

• L2 Early Years Practitioner
• L3 Early Years Educator
• L5 Early Years Practitioner
• L6 Midwife (degree)

T Levels

The T Level in early years education and childcare is now taught at selected schools, colleges and other providers across Hertfordshire. T Levels are aimed at young people who want to study a subject to prepare them for a specialist job.

T Levels, which take 2 years to complete, are equivalent to taking 3 A levels and attract UCAS points. They bring together classroom learning and work placement to give young people the knowledge and skills they need to obtain a skilled role, apprenticeship or continue to further study.

An early education and childcare T Level will meet the Early Years Educator criteria. On successful achievement the student has achieved the EYE Occupational Specialism of the T Level in Education and Childcare, the young person can count in the level 3 ratios.
