EVENT PRODUCTION BOOTCAMP OVERVIEW:

 

This 12-week event production course focuses on providing learners with hands-on experience working with equipment and digital technologies commonly used in the live events industry. Led by highly experienced industry professionals, this course provides access to high-quality training in core areas of live event production, including logistics, venue preparation, event safety, rigging, audio, lighting, video, stage design, load-in, rehearsals, live performances, and load-out. By the end of the course learners will be well-versed in best practices and equipped with all the skills necessary to work safely and effectively within an event team environment.

 

Target Cohort: 

  • CPD in the Live Event, TV & Film industry  
  • Upskill and transition into production, film, TV & live event industries from other sectors. 
  • Low entry point; no specific skills or experience necessary to be able to complete this course

 

Learning Outcomes:

This course will provide you with an event safety passport to enable you to work safely on a live event site. By the end of the course, you will be equipped with the knowledge, skills and behaviours to:  

  • Acquire knowledge, skills, and behaviors to enable safe working on a live event site.
  • To have knowledge of live event staff roles and responsibilities.
  • To have knowledge of event language and terminology.
  • To have knowledge of core live event processes.
  • To have experience of Load in, Rigging, Operation, De-rig and load out of a live event.
  • To gain skills in manual handling, basic rigging, cabling management.
  • To gain skills in one specialism - digital operations (sound, light and video).
  • To have knowledge, skills and behaviors in professional conduct and etiquette.

 Those approaching the end of the reporting period who have not had a successful interview or progression, will continue to be supported to help them reach their career goals. We will sign post learners to additional advice, guidance, or training opportunities to enhance their chances of success if this is required.   

 

Outcomes:

At the end of the courses, learners will have the opportunity to:   

  • Become self-employed - fully support learners with knowledge / advice about self-employment & providing IAG on how and where to find work within the industry via our extensive networks, partners, and regional businesses.  
  • Gain employment – we already have a portfolio of employers who have committed to interviewing our learners and we anticipate many more once we start to advertise and promote the course and the skill development that these individuals will be undertaking. We anticipate that learners will be able to secure an interview / progression post-training as the skills and knowledge gained from this course are very specialist and highly marketable.  

 

DELIVERY DETAILS:

 

Overview:

Our courses are 8-16 weeks with a minimum of 60 GLH. Delivery consists of hands-on problem-based learning techniques, combined with a blended, flipped classroom and praxis approach. A ‘learning scaffold’ is used throughout the course to ensure all delegates work at their own pace according to ability, without being left behind others. Courses are typically delivered via a mix of remote/virtual learning and classroom / on-set/studio at high-tech facilities across the UK.

Delivery:

Week 1: Introduction Day – 10:00 – 14:00 

Weeks 2-11: 10 x Training Days – 10:00 – 16:30  

Week 12: Portfolio and interviews - Online

 

Weekly review / evaluation processes such as anonymous quizzes, in-session feedback, peer-peer feedback, and formative assessment activities are undertaken in addition to our formal review process. 

Interview preparation including CV workshops, interview support and self-employment routes are woven throughout the learner journey. Monthly reviews are conducted post-completion until the learner achieves progression, signposting for additional support if appropriate. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Event Coordinator/Event Assistant: These roles involve assisting in the planning and execution of events. Responsibilities may include coordinating logistics, managing vendors, and supporting event managers.
  • Event Manager: Event managers oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of events. They are responsible for managing budgets, timelines, vendors, and ensuring that events run smoothly.
  • Production Manager: Production managers oversee the technical aspects of events, such as audiovisual setup, staging, lighting, and sound production.
  • Stage Manager: Stage managers are responsible for coordinating all aspects of a live event's performance, including cueing performers, managing backstage, and ensuring the show's smooth flow.
  • Audiovisual Technician: AV technicians handle the setup, operation, and maintenance of audiovisual equipment during events, ensuring the technical aspects run smoothly.
  • Lighting Technician: Lighting technicians are responsible for setting up and operating lighting equipment to create the desired ambiance and visual effects for events.
  • Sound Engineer: Sound engineers manage the audio equipment and ensure the quality of sound during events, including concerts, conferences, and other live performances.
  • Event Sales Manager: Event sales managers are involved in selling event services to potential clients, negotiating contracts, and building relationships to drive business growth.
  • Venue Manager: Venue managers oversee the day-to-day operations of event venues, ensuring that events hosted in the venue are successful and that all client requirements are met.
  • Conference/Trade Show Manager: These roles involve planning and organizing conferences, trade shows, and exhibitions, including managing exhibitors, speakers, and attendees.
  • Festival Organizer: Festival organizers plan and execute large-scale festivals and outdoor events, handling logistics, vendor coordination, and attendee experiences.
  • Corporate Event Planner: Corporate event planners focus on organizing business-related events, such as conferences, seminars, product launches, and company retreats.

Our Skills Bootcamps are designed to address the skills gaps / transferable skills needs within the TV & Film sector. Our unique facilities offer learners the chance to use state-of-the-art technology and be educated by the leading specialists whilst being supported by a wider creative ecosystem. 

We have been delivering Skills Bootcamps since April 2023 when we were awarded a contract onto the WYCA’s Skills Connect Digital Skills Framework in 2022. This programme comprises of a series of non-accredited, employer-endorsed adult training courses designed to support individuals to access higher level employment opportunities or progression within their current employment.

Our courses are designed with employer input to ensure that they are aligned to the needs of the sector. Our specialist team work collectively and iteratively to collaborate with a range of stakeholders, industry partners and employers on a regional, national and international scale to co-design, co-deliver and peer review all our course content and materials and to ensure these courses meet the diverse employability needs of the live events / creative industry sector. 

Our current portfolio consists of 98 learners; however, we have recently been awarded an additional 168 learners. Our retention rate is 86% with 100% of learners rating provision as good / excellent; as well as meeting / exceeding expectations. We expect all learners to progress into jobs or self-employment soon after completion.
