About the Mental Health Peer Support Bootcamp:

This course has been designed to equip learners with the relevant skills, knowledge, and behaviours to support others with their mental health. This bootcamp will provide learners with an introduction to mental health, mental health diagnosis, peer support skills and foundational knowledge for those that want to explore working within the mental health sector.

 

Over the 12-week programme, learners will complete the following modules:

 

  • Introduction to mental health
  • Understanding factors that may affect an individual’s mental health.
  • Mental health diagnosis
  • Mental health peer support skills
  • Preparing to work in mental health.

 

Delivery Details

Our delivery models range in duration and methods depending on the target audience, and further details of specific cohorts available please see ‘planned cohorts’ below. To support your learning, you will receive training resources and manuals provided by the College.

By the end of the training, learners will have:

  • An in-depth understanding of mental health and factors that can affect wellbeing.
  • The ability to spot the signs of poor mental health and emotional distress.
  • Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress.
  • An understanding of roles, responsibilities and boundaries when supporting others
  • Reflected on knowledge, qualities and skills needed to support others.
  • Knowledge of how to support their own wellbeing.
  • Knowledge of national and local signposting options
